Weekly Uplift – Fruitiness

“For each tree is known by its own fruit,” says Jesus in Luke 6:44.

What kind of fruit do you produce?

Love, kindness, gentleness, blessing, grace, strength, courage? (see more in Galatians 5:22-23)

Anger, malice, arrogance, bluster, taunting, destruction, foolishness?

Jesus tells us that the kind of fruit (behavior, attitude) we produce tells what kind of tree—or person—we are. We hope to be the kind of tree that is rooted well by a good water source, nourished by good ground, giving delicious fruit when it is time (Psalm 1). In other words, we aspire to be the kind of person that is nourished by a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and who offers the behaviors and attitudes described in Galatians 5:22-23.

A personal reflection at the end of each day might help. Something like, “What kind of fruit did I produce today? What kind of tree was I? God please help me to do better tomorrow.”
