Weekly Uplift “Celebrate!”

In these dark and difficult times, it is important for us to seek and to receive light! Celebration is one way that we can receive such light—the light of God.

This Sunday, 9 – 9:45 a.m. First Christian Church of Adel will host a Drive In service in our parking lot on the east side of our building on Nile Kinnick St. We will CELEBRATE God’s presence with us in many ways. By highlighting a children’s activity. By celebrating a graduating ADM senior. By singing to worship music. By giving God the worship of praise and blessing.

We will take a closer look at what it means to truly Celebrate during this service. As we anticipate this time, I encourage us to reflect on Philippians 4:4—“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, Rejoice”—through these questions:

What happens to us when we celebrate people or things, even in hard times?

Why does Paul write, “Rejoice” twice in this sentence? What is he trying to say here?

What atmosphere do we help create when we have an attitude of celebration?

How can we help ourselves and others as we are happy about (or “rejoice in”) their presence and God’s presence with us?

As we consider this verse and these questions, we are struck by the truth that our faith puts much emphasis on rejoicing and celebration. (I encourage you to do a word search sometime in the whole Bible for the words “rejoice” and its derivations and see how many times it comes up.) The truth is that celebration is an integral part of our faith, which directs and fills our lives.

So, let us celebrate this week the people, events, and things that we consider blessings in our lives.

And, may we be causes for celebration in the places in which we live.

Peace,

Pastor Doug
