Weekly Uplift – “Thresholds”

You are about to enter a room by walking through an entryway.

This entry might be

                entering a new school room

                walking into a job interview

walking down a church aisle to be married

entering a funeral home for a service for a loved one

entering a new home you’ve just purchased

walking through a gate for an amusement park about which you are excited

leaving a room in which you’ve just had an argument with a friend

entering the safety and assistance of a nursing facility after you’ve spent years living in your home.

What is going through your mind?

How do you feel?

Where are you?

These scenarios (and thousands of others) along with these questions (and thousands of others) have happened (or will happen) to most of us in our lifetimes. These transitions usually include many important issues around the crossing of thresholds in our lives. What helps us in such thresholds?

We will explore this question this week in worship. For now, let us affirm 3 helps from God:

  1. God has been with us in the past and will be with us in the future—as God is with us now (Psalm 46:1).
  2. God’s Holy Spirit gives us tools to deal with such transitions—like faith, hope, and love (I Corinthians 13:13).
  3. Jesus holds our hands in such moments of major change. In Christ we can trust that someone greater than ourselves is guiding us! (Revelation 7:17).

May God guide and help you through all your transitions.
