I invite you to please read Matthew 21:28-31:
28 “What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 He answered, ‘I will not’; but later he changed his mind and went. 30 The father went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir’; but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you.
We’ve all been in such a situation or watched such a situation before, haven’t we? Someone seemingly “gung ho” backs out of a task or an assignment. Someone initially reluctant later steps in and completes a task or assignment.
There is A LOT! in this short story. Failure. Accomplishment. Sin. Obedience. Failed promises. Repentance. Completed tasks.
Who is REALLY in? As part of Kingdom of God? The answer is simple: no matter what our words, our promises, our intentions, our broad ideas, etc., the one who actually DOES the will of God is the one who is in the Kingdom of God.
This tale of “my two sons” is really a story about us. About the two parts of us. The part that is well-intentioned but non-obedient. And, the part that may grumble or initially balk but who eventually obeys and does God’s will.
Who will you be today?
Who will I be today?
Which son or daughter will we be today?
Better put, whose daughter or son will we be today?
Peace,
